Sunday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Flag Football – Playoffs Week 1 Recap

OGs (2-4) v. INDY Team #4 (3-4) – Sunday, August 30, and 2020

In what was the third matchup this season between these two crews on Sunday morning at the Lincoln Park TURF Field, #5 OGs upset the fourth-seeded INDY Team #4 squad. The final score of 29-14 reflects the hard work OGs put into every minute of this game. OGs really showed up in this one, topping their average of 14.60 points per game. QB Monet Mailey threw for one touchdown, which was caught by Mike Keeton, while also rushing in one of her own. Denzell Blackmon was all over the field as well, recording two defensive TDs to help seal the win. This huge victory advanced the OGs into the semifinals and they would need to stay on the field to take on #1 Flags & Flasks. See below for this games recap. INDY Team #4 really were unable to get rolling on offense in this game, scoring less than their average of 19.30 points per game this season. During the loss, QB Shaun Himmerick hit Mario Garcia and Willie Hall for their only scores of the game. Even though they lost this tough battle in the quarterfinals, INDY Team #4 competed hard every week. We hope we see them on the field in the upcoming Fall season!

Flags & Flasks (5-1) v. OGs (2-4) – Sunday, August 30, and 2020

As they did earlier in the year back in Week 5, Flags & Flasks won the rematch between these two crews. Flags & Flasks put 41 on the board and held OGs to 7 points.  Flags & Flasks are the highest-scoring team in the league for the season, averaging 29.7 points per game. QB Matt Sandt was on fire on Sunday. He passed for five touchdowns, hitting five different receivers for the scores. This huge semifinal victory advances #1 Flags & Flasks into the Championship game on Sunday, September 13th once we return from the holiday break. OGs really struggled to get it going on offense in this game, scoring less than their average of 14.60 points per game for the year. In the loss, QB Monet Mailey hit Chaz Duson for their only score of the game. It was a fantastic overall season for the OGs group and we hope we see them on the TURF during the upcoming Fall season!

Willis Towers Watson (3-2) v. No As Club (1-5) – Sunday, August 30, and 2020

As was the case earlier this season back in Week 3, Willis Towers Watson won the rematch between these two Teams. By the score of 60-14, Willis Towers Watson got a massive W to advance into the semifinals. QB Brett Edlbeck delivered a performance of a lifetime, tossing for eight scores, passing to Adam for three of them. With this lopsided victory, Willis Towers Watson would need to stay on the field and take on #2 The Assassins in the semifinals with a spot in the Championship game on the line. More on this game below. No As Club brought their best on offense even with this loss on their record, exceeding their average of 12.60 ppg this year. Unfortunately, it was their D that let them down in this quarterfinal’s matchup. For No As Club, in the loss, QB Luc Quaranta hit Matt Payton for their only two scores of the game. It was a tough season for No As Club, but they showed up ready to work every single week. We hope to see these guys competing once again in the upcoming Fall season!

Willis Towers Watson (3-2) v. The Assassins (4-2) – Sunday, August 30, and 2020

The final score of 34-18 reflects the hard work Willis Towers Watson put into every minute of this semifinal’s matchup. QB Brett Edlbeck passed for three TDs in this contest, finding Remi Haymon for two of them. He also rushed for one with his legs. This upset victory in the semifinals now sees Willis Towers Watson advance into the Championship game coming up on Sunday, September 13th once we return from the holiday break. The Assassins struggled to stop anything on D in this game, allowing more points than their average of 19.00 points against per game for the season. In the loss for The Assassins, QB Sean Kelly hit Ciera Diggins for two touchdowns. While it is certainly not the way they intended this season to end, The Assassins should still be proud of their excellent season. We hope to see them make another run at the title coming up in the Fall season!
