Burton Birdwatchers (5-0-2) vs. Jefferies (0-4-3) – Sunday, July 29, and 2018
The #2 seed, Burton Birdwatchers, took on the #7 seed, Jefferies in this Quarter-Final game. The last time these two teams met in week 4, Burton Birdwatchers won 3-1. This time around, the results weren’t much different. Paul Boehme leads Burton Birdwatchers this season in scoring and added 3 goals to his sheet this week bringing Paul Boehme’s personal total to 7. The win for Burton Birdwatchers means a ticket to semi-finals where they’re scheduled to play the #5 ranked team, African Bush Elephants. When they played each other earlier this season, Burton Birdwatchers won 3-2. This heartbreaking loss comes when Jefferies scored their personal best of the season. The losing team still had notable players including Steven Jarrett, who kicked three goals for Jefferies. Hopefully the loss doesn’t haunt Jefferies too much. There’s always next season.
African Bush Elephants (2-5) vs. Net Six and Chill (3-2-2) – Sunday, July 29, and 2018
In this Quarter-Final game, the #3 seed, Net Six and Chill, took on the #5 seed, African Bush Elephants. African Bush Elephants are heating up with two wins in a row. Steve Demo is the goalkeeper credited with the shutout for African Bush Elephants. Helping on the offense, John Haller was among those who scored in this playoff win for African Bush Elephants. Net Six and Chill struggled to get it going on offense in this game and fell short of making it onto the scoreboard. This week’s win advances African Bush Elephants to semi-finals, they’ll face the #2 ranked team, Burton Birdwatchers in a rematch. Last time they played each other Burton Birdwatchers won 3-2. Hopefully the loss doesn’t haunt Net Six and Chill too much. There’s always next season.
Treadmill Trotters (2-4-2) vs. Waboba (1-4-2) – Sunday, July 29, and 2018
The 4th place vs 5th place game is always one of the most exciting matches of the playoff bracket. With a final score of 1-0, Treadmill Trotters grabbed this W. To make things even more interesting, the last time these two teams met in week 4, they tied 2-2. Waboba struggled to get it going on offense in this game and suffered a shutout. Waboba’s loss means they are done in this single-elimination playoff schedule. This was one of two games for Treadmill Trotters this week. This was the better played match, which helped them lock in their #4 rank in the standings table. The two MVPs in this close match were the goalkeeper for Treadmill Trotters, Mike Hill, who had a shutout, and Evan Wright who scored the only goal of the game. This win advanced Treadmill Trotters to semi-finals, which was played as a double header. The exciting recap of that game is below.
Spoons FC (6-0-1) vs. Treadmill Trotters (2-4-2) – Sunday, July 29, and 2018
In this Semi-Final game, the #1 seed, Spoons FC spanked the #4 seed, Treadmill Trotters by a final score of 4-0. Treadmill Trotters had two games this week. They struggled in this match, and they now sit in 4th place in the standings. Treadmill Trotters is done for the season and we hope to see them return for the start of the new league coming up soon. This is the second week in a row Spoons FC took home the win. Danny Deroo is the goalkeeper credited with the shutout for Spoons FC. Helping on the offense, Josh W was among those who scored in this playoff win for Spoons FC. The win for Spoons FC advances them to the championship game where they’ll take on the winner of the upcoming semi-final game.
