Burton Birdwatchers (4-4) vs. Chicago Shooters (3-5) – Sunday, June 3, 2018
The 4th place vs 5th place game is always one of the most exciting matches of the playoff bracket, but was fairly lopsided this time with a final score of 4-1, Burton Birdwatchers. The last time these two teams met in week 2, Chicago Shooters won 2-0,but the results were obviously different this time around. The Birdwatchers had two games this week this one being better played match, which secured their #4 rank in the standings table. Nicholas Pellegrino was among those who scored in this playoff win for Burton Birdwatchers, putting two shots past the Chicago Shooters goalkeeper, Pelumi Ogunlana. Chicago Shooters really struggled on offense in this one, scoring fewer than their average of 2.0 GPG for the year, with Matt Robinson scoring the sole goal to get his team on the board. Burton Birdwatchers advanced to semi-finals, and without a week to rest, jumped right into a double header, recapped below. Chicago Shooters’s loss means the end of the line for The Shooter’s this season.

Spoons FC (7-1) vs. Burton Birdwatchers (4-4) – Sunday, June 3, 2018
It was an exciting Semi-Final game, in which the #1 seed, Spoons FC, squeaked by with a 1-point shootout win against the #4 seed, Burton Birdwatchers. These two teams were so evenly matched that they were unable to put any goals on the board in regulation, and thus the game was decided through a shoot-out. The true MVP in this close match was the goalkeeper for Spoons FC, Benji Goldberg, who had a shutout, in regulation and through the shootout. The Spoons dominated in the regular season, and it’s no surprise to see them advancing to the championship game, but have a worthy opponent ahead of them the #2 ranked Treadmill Trotters. These two met in week 1 and Spoons FC won 1-0, expect that same intensity in this championship showdown. Burton Birdwatchers fought hard but appeared tired after their first game, but exit the league at a respectable #4 on the standings.
Treadmill Trotters (6-1-1) vs. Mayhem (3-6) – Sunday, June 3, 2018
#2 Treadmill Trotters earned an expected but well-earned W in this semi-final game against the #6 seed, Mayhem. This was one of two games for Mayhem, and proved the tougher match of the two. Mayhem is done for the season and we hope to see them return for the start of the new league coming up soon. Melvin Monterrosa is the goalkeeper credited with the shutout for Treadmill Trotters. Helping on the offense, Evan Wright was among those who scored in this playoff win for Treadmill Trotters. Treadmill Trotters is on their way to the big game. They only lost 1 game this season and it was to Spoons FC. They’ll face them again in the championship next week, and this game is sure to be a close one. Either team could come out victorious.
