Fall 2018 Tuesday CIBC Coed Soccer – Week 8

GCM Grosvenor (5-3) vs. Kick in a Box (1-5-2) – Tuesday, January 29, 2019

 

Heading into this quarter-final games, Kick in a Box were coming off their top offensive game of the season, scoring 5 goals last week. Unfortunately, their energy wasn’t enough since GCM Grosvenor took the win to advance to Semi-Finals. In the win, Jeff Lorden, Lilly, Joe, and Casey scored for GCM Grosvenor, each one putting one shot past the Kick in a Box goalkeeper, Vincent Taweel. Kick in a Box really struggled to get it going in terms of scoring in this one, scoring fewer than their average of 1.4 goals per game for the year. Ashley Campell scored the only goal for Kick in a Box to get their team on the board. This win advanced GCM Grosvenor to semi-finals, which was played as a double header. The exciting recap of that game is below. Hopefully the loss doesn’t haunt Kick in a Box too much. There’s always next season.

 

 

BMcD (5-3-1) vs. JLL Soccer (3-2-2) – Tuesday, January 29, 2019

 

The 4th place vs 5th place game is usually one of the most exciting matches of the playoff bracket. However, that wasn’t the case for this game. With a final score of 10-3, BMcD grabbed this W. The last time these two teams met in week 4, BMcD won by forfeit. This week, BMcD came ready for playoffs. Allie Shea, Kelly Cumiskey, Lucas Armor, Jose G, Caleb Peterson, Nel Ciurdar, and Troy Jansen were among those who scored in this playoff win for BMcD, putting 10 shots past the JLL Soccer goalkeeper, Kyle Overby. BMcD advanced to semi-finals, and without a week to rest, jumped right into it as a double header. See how they did by reading the next recap. Despite losing, JLL Soccer has been doing great on offense so far, with a total of 26 goals. JLL Soccer’s loss means they are done in this single-elimination playoff schedule.

 

 

Beercelona (6-0-4) vs. BMcD (5-3-1) – Tuesday, January 29, 2019

 

No one expected this semi-final games to be such a close one. Beercelona, the #1 seed just squeaked by in this 1-point game to beat the #5 seed, BMcD. Connor Welby leads Beercelona this season in scoring and added 3 goals to their stats this week bringing Connor Welby’s personal total to 19, which is the highest in the league. Nick Braund also scored one goal for Beercelona. BMcDstill had notable players including Jose G, who put in two goals, and Lucas ,who put in one goal for BMcD. They dominated in the regular season, and it’s no surprise Beercelona advanced to the Championship game. Read the recap below to find out how they did. Chubby Alonsos (5-2-3) vs. GCM Grosvenor (5-3) – Tuesday, January 29, 2019

 

The #3 seed, GCM Grosvenor, forfeited to the #7 seed, Chubby Alonsos in this Semi-Final game. GCM Grosvenor had a great run this season but they will not be advancing to the next round of playoffs. These underdogs have made it to the big dance! Chubby Alonsos, who finished the regular season as the #7 seed advanced to the Championship Game. Beercelona (6-0-4) vs. Chubby Alonsos (5-2-3) – Tuesday, January 29, 2019

 

In this suspenseful Championship Game, the #1 team, Beercelona played the #7 team, Chubby Alonsos, for the coveted Chicago Sport and Social Club long-sleeve champ shirts to forever capture their moment of glory. Chubby Alonsos went from the #7 at the end of the season to the championship game, which is a victory in itself. Although they lost, they had a great playoff run and they have next season to look forward to. The two MVPs in this match were the goalkeeper for Beercelona, Ross Munro, who had a shutout, and Connor Welby who scored the only goals in the game. Congratulations to Beercelona on a great season and their championship win! We hope to see this squad return to defend their title.
