Fall 2018 Saturday Lincoln Park Men’s Int Flag Football – Week 7

Monsters of the Midway (4-4) v. Koozie Club (1-6) – Saturday, October 27, and 2018

With both teams playing as hard as they could to advance to Semi-Finals, the #3 seed, Monsters of the Midway, won by just a 5-point margin against the #6 seed, Koozie Club. Monsters of the Midway put 19 on the board and held Koozie Club to 14 points. In the loss for Koozie Club, QB Nathan Wiley rushed two TDs. Monsters of the Midway brought their A game, beating their average of 16.60 points per game. QB Alex threw two touchdowns, finding both Mike and Eddie for one of them and ran for one more. This win advanced Monsters of the Midway to semi-finals, which was played as a double header. The exciting recap of that game is below. Hopefully the loss doesn’t haunt Koozie Club too much. There’s always next season.

 

TBD (Mertens) (3-5) v. Swamp Donkeys (2-4) – Saturday, October 27, and 2018

The 4th place vs 5th place game is always one of the most exciting matches of the playoff bracket. With a final score of 28-13, TBD (Mertens) grabbed this W. With a final score of 28-13, TBD (Mertens) got their sixth-straight win. They really brought their A game on D in this game, beating their season points against average of 36.6 ppg. QB Ian Mertens threw four TDs, passing to Xoni Veseli for two of them, and Jeff Lapetina and Devin for one each. Even with the L on their record, Swamp Donkeys played their A game on the offensive end in this game, beating their average of 9.80 ppg for the year. For Swamp Donkeys, in the loss, QB Garrett May hit Pat for one touchdown and ran in one on his own. The win for TBD (Mertens) meant a straight shot to semi-finals. They played this game immediately following the quarter-final game. The recap below tells you all about it. Swamp Donkeys is done with playoffs, which means it’s time for a team meeting at the bar to regroup for next season!

 

Los Charros (6-0-1) v. TBD (Mertens) (3-5) – Saturday, October 27, and 2018

Los Charros, the #1 seed, took on the #4 seed, TBD (Mertens) in this Semi-final game. The last time these two teams met in week 6, Los Charros won 20-13. The results weren’t much different this time around.  The final score of 20-6 reflects the hard work Los Charros put into every minute of the game.  This team really stepped up on defense in this game, beating their season points against average of 8.7 ppg. QB John Stool passed two touchdowns, passing to Drew for one of them.  For TBD (Mertens), QB Ian Mertens hit Connor for one touchdown. They dominated in the regular season, and it’s no surprise Los Charros is advancing to the championship game. They have a tough match ahead of them when they take on the #2 ranked team, Penny Sacks. This championship showdown should be epic. TBD (Mertens) had a great run this season but they will not be advancing to the next round of playoffs.

 

Penny Sacks (5-0-1) v. Monsters of the Midway (4-4) – Saturday, October 27, and 2018

In this Semi-final game, the #2 seed, Penny Sacks, took on the #3 seed, Monsters of the Midway. With a final score of 23-12, Penny Sacks remain unbeaten.  These guys buckled down in this one, winning despite allowing more points than their season points against average of 8.0 ppg. QB Craig threw five TDs, finding Eric Jenson for two of them. The win for Penny Sacks advances them to the championship game where they’ll take on the #1 seed, Los Charros. Hopefully the loss doesn’t haunt Monsters of the Midway too much. There’s always next season.
