Team America (6-0-1) vs. Rooney Tunes (0-5-2) – Friday, October 19, and 2018
Team America, the #1 seed, took on Rooney Tunes, the #8 seed, in this quarter-final game. Rooney Tunes struggled to get it going on offense in this one and couldn’t seem to find the back of the net. Team America continued their winning streak this week and are officially on fire. Mike Dash is the goalkeeper credited with the shutout for Team America. Helping on the offense, Matt Lokia, Tim H, Alison Hans, and Mark M were among those who scored in this playoff win for Team America. Rooney Tunes is done for the season and we hope to see them return for the start of the new league coming up soon. The win for Team America means a ticket to semi-finals. They’re scheduled to play the #5 ranked team, Ten More Beers. When they played each other earlier this season, Team America won 3-1.
Shenanigans (5-0-2) vs. Life’s a Pitch (1-5-1) – Friday, October 19, and 2018
Heading into this quarter-final game, Life’s a Pitch was coming off their top offensive game of the season, scoring 3 goals last week. Additionally, they were the higher ranked #2 seed playing the #7 seed, Life’s a Pitch. They just barely took the win to advance to Semi-Finals. Life’s a Pitch struggled to stop anything on D in this one, allowing more goals than their average of 2.6 goals against per game this season. The losing team still had notable players including Issam Kaisse, who put in two goals, and Fredrik Sunesson who put in one goal for Life’s a Pitch. Shenanigans is on fire! Terrence scored two goals, and Britt Withey and Adam each scored one goal in this playoff win for Shenanigans. Life’s a Pitch is done with playoffs, which means it’s time for a team meeting at the bar to regroup for next season! The win for Shenanigans means a ticket to semi-finals. They’re scheduled to play the #6 ranked team, Green Smoke Football Club. When they played each other earlier this season, Shenanigans won 5-0.
Green Smoke Football Club (3-4) vs. Torts Illustrated (3-4) – Friday, October 19, and 2018
It was an exciting quarter-final match-up, in which the #6 seed, Green Smoke Football Club, squeaked by with a 1-point win against the #3 seed, Torts Illustrated. Green Smoke Football Club seems to have found their groove and has won two games in a row. The two MVPs in this close match were the goalkeeper for Green Smoke Football Club, Elliot Donahue, who had a shutout, and Lily Chetosky who scored her first goal of the season and the only goal of the game! This week’s win advances Green Smoke Football Club to semi-finals. They’ll face the #2 ranked team, Shenanigans in a rematch. Last time they played each other Shenanigans won 5-0. On the bright side for Torts Illustrated, this loss means they can save their legs and recharge for next season.
Ten More Beers (3-2-2) vs. INDY Team #5 (3-3) – Friday, October 19, and 2018
The 4th place vs 5th place game is always one of the most exciting matches of the playoff bracket. With a final score of 2-0, Ten More Beers grabbed this W. These teams had similar records with 3 wins each. The last time these two teams met in week 5, Ten More Beers won 4-0. INDY Team #5 was unable to get rolling in this one, and failed to make it onto the scoreboard. Hopefully the loss doesn’t haunt INDY Team #5 too much. There’s always next season. Robert Rucker is the goalkeeper credited with the shutout for Ten More Beers. Helping on the offense, Bryan Hancock and Leon Corriea were among those who scored in this playoff win for Ten More Beers. This week’s win advances Ten More Beers to semi-finals. They’ll face the #1 ranked team, Team America in a rematch. Last time they played each other Team America won 3-1.
