Wednesday UIC TURF Coed REC/INT Coed 7v7 Soccer – Playoffs Week 1
Uber Freight #1 (3-4-1) vs. Goode FC (2-4-1) – Wednesday, September 2, 2020
These two teams paired up in the season opener back in Week 1 and walked away from one another with a 1-1 draw. But #4 seed Uber Freight #1 recorded a huge 4-1 win against #5 seed Goode FC in this rematch in the quarterfinals of the Wednesday UIC TURF Coed 7v7 Soccer Playoffs. Four different players tallied their names onto the scorer’s sheet, including Grant Gatto who notched his team leading fourth goal of the season to help his squad secure the victory and advance into the semifinals. Uber Freight #1 would stay on the field and immediately take on #1 seed Plant Based Plants in the semifinals. More on this game below. Ivan Soria knocked in his third goal of the season for Goode FC to get their team on the board in this game, but it just was not enough to keep up with the determined Uber Freight #1 crew. Goode FC had a great overall season and we hope we see them on the field competing once again in the upcoming Fall season!
Plant Based Plants (6-0-1) vs. Uber Freight #1 (3-4-1) – Wednesday, September 2, 2020
Uber Freight #1 came up just short in a 3-2 thriller that ended in a shootout on Wednesday night, ending its season in the semifinals of the Wednesday UIC TURF Coed 7v7 Soccer Playoffs. Grant Gatto and Glen provided the offensive fire power for Uber Freight #1 during regulation time. Unfortunately for Uber Freight #1, they came up just short in the penalty shootout and saw their season come to an end. It was a great run for this crew, and we hope to see them make another run at the title on the TURF in the upcoming Fall season. #1 seed Plant Based Plants, had to fight, wait, and watch as goalkeeper Justin W. willed his side to a victory on Wednesday night. In the end, however, it was Uber Freight #1’s misfortune that decided it. Uber Freight #1’s fifth and deciding attempt in PKs missed, sending #1 Plant Based Plants into the Finals against #2 seed INDY Team #3 (5-1-1).
Formerly In Shape FC (5-4-0) vs. INDY Team #6 (0-7-0) – Wednesday, September 2, 2020
As was the case in the regular season finale, #3 seed Formerly In Shape FC won the rematch against #6 seed INDY Team #6 in the quarterfinals of the Wednesday UIC TURF Coed 7v7 Soccer Playoffs. This game finished with a final score of 4-2. Meghan Day led the charge for Formerly In Shape FC in this match, firing in two goals to help steer her squad in the semifinals. Sergio Miranda and Dylan Peters-Farrell provided the rest of the offense for their squad in this crucial victory. Formerly In Shape FC would need to stay on the field and take on #2 seed INDY Team #3 in the semifinals. More on this game below. INDY Team #6 gave everything they had on the offensive end despite losing this game, scoring more than their average of 1.5 GPG this season. INDY Team #6 still had notable players in this match including Emma Barnes and Jay Gonzalez who each scored one goal for INDY Team #6. While they failed to record a victory this season, INDY Team #6 battled week in and week out. We hope to see this crew back on the field in the upcoming Fall season!
INDY Team #3 (5-1-1) vs. Formerly In Shape FC (5-4-0) – Wednesday, September 2, 2020
Four different players scored goals as #2 seed INDY Team #3 came away with an emphatic 5-0 win over #3 seed Formerly In Shape FC on Wednesday evening in the semifinals of the Wednesday UIC TURF Coed 7v7 Soccer Playoffs. Arturo Vera knocked in his fifth and sixth goals of the season to help steer INDY Team #3 to victory. Special Shout-out to keeper, Carlos Paramo, for the shutout! With the win, INDY Team #3 advances into the Championship game on Wednesday, September 9th and will take on #1 seed Plant Based Plants (6-0-1) in what should be an epic Final. Formerly In Shape FC struggled to find any offense in this game and suffered their second shutout of the season. It was a great run for this squad this year. We hope to see them make another run at the title coming up in the Fall season!
