Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer – Playoffs Week 1 Recap

Peanut Gallery (5-1-1) vs. Loins (2-5) – Wednesday, October 21, 2020

Peanut Gallery erupted for a 6-2 victory over Loins in Round 1 of the Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League Playoffs. Andre F. led the way for Peanut Gallery in this contest, recording a hat-trick to help their squad advance into the Quarterfinals. The leagues overall leading goal scorer, David Sippel, added two more goals to their tally for Peanut Gallery to help seal this Round 1 victory. Peanut Gallery advances into the Quarterfinals with this win and will take on #5 seed Plant Based Plants (5-1-1) coming up on Wednesday night. Loins produced their second-best scoring output of the season in this game, knocking in two goals, unfortunately it just was not enough to keep up with the highest scoring team in the league. Zachary Kronsnoble and Elliott Renft tallied the only goals in this contest for Loins. This loss ends the season for team Loins, but they competed hard week-in and week-out. We hope to see them on the pitch next season!

 

Trailblazers (6-0-1) vs. INDY Team #5 (1-6) – Wednesday, October 21, 2020

The #1 seed Trailblazers offense erupted as five different players found the back of the net in handing #16 seed INDY Team #5 an identical loss as they did back in Week 2, 7-0, this time in Round 1 of the Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League Playoffs. Brittany Baird and Mari Greenberg each recorded a brace, while Kevin Henington, Jordyn Greenberg, and Rachel Barnett each knocked in a goal apiece to help Trailblazers secure their sixth overall victory of the season and advance their club into the Quarterfinals. Coming up on Wednesday night, #1 seed Trailblazers will take the pitch against #8 seed Torts Illustrated (4-3) in the Quarterfinals, with the winner moving along to play on the Semifinals coming up on Wednesday, November 4th. As they did back in Week 2, INDY Team #5 struggled to contain the #1 seed Trailblazers offense. While this is certainly not the way INDY team #5 envisioned their season ending, they still competed hard every week. We hope to see you all back on the pitch next season!

 

Let’s Get Messi (5-0-1) vs. Rooney Tunes (1-6) – Wednesday, October 21, 2020

Let’s Get Messi took the field in Round 1 of the Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League Playoffs as the overall #2 seed, and they lived up to their reputation, dealing #15 seed Rooney Tunes a 4-1 loss. Thomas DiMauro, Willy Thompson, Cara Cecil and Margaret Rocca all recorded their names onto the scorer’s sheet to help Let’s Get Messi advance into the Quarterfinals. GK Seth Thoth stepped up in this contest as well for Let’s Get Messi, allowing only a single goal to get past them in this contest. #2 Let’s Get Messi will take the pitch coming up on Wednesday night in the Quarterfinals and take on # 7 seed Chicago Lightfooters FC (4-2-1) with the winner of this match advancing into the Semifinals coming up on Wednesday, November 4th. It was the second time this season that #15 seed Rooney Tunes lost to #2 seed Let’s Get Messi by three goals, the first time was back in Week 5 by a final score of 3-0. David Romanchuk tallied the sole goal for Rooney Tunes in this contest to get their team on the board, unfortunately it just was not enough to keep up a tough Let’s Get Messi Squad. Rooney Tunes did not have the season they were hoping for but nonetheless, they were still a tough out each week. We hope to see them back on the pitch next season!

 

Grass Kickers (6-1) vs. TQL (1-6) – Wednesday, October 21, 2020

The third-seeded Grass Kickers cruised to a 4-0 victory over the fourteenth-seeded TQL squad in Round 1 of the Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League Playoffs. The win propels Grass Kickers to a 6-1-0 overall record and into the Quarterfinals. Sam Farrell led the way for Grass Kickers in this contest, knocking in a brace to bring his season total up to five goals. John Krone and Robert Thomashow each fired in a goal apiece for Grass Kickers to provide some insurance. The win moves Grass Kickers into the Quarterfinals where they will now take on #6 seed Soccer? I hardly even know her. (4-2-1) coming up on Wednesday night. The winner of this match moves along into the Semifinals which will be played on Wednesday, November 4th. TQL end their season with an overall 1-6-0 record with the loss. TQL had their struggles this season but they competed hard each week. We hope to see them back on the field next season!

 

Plant Based Plants (5-1-1) vs. Kick in a Box (2-5) – Wednesday, October 21, 2020

#5 seeded Plant Based Plants picked up a comprehensive victory in Round 1 of the Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League Playoffs, blowing out #12 seed Kick in a Box 6-1 to improve to 5-1-1 on the season and advance into the Quarterfinals round. Sam Viola and JP Perez each recorded a brace to lead the way for Plant Based Plants in this contest. GK Justin Wasik was very solid in net as well for Plant Based Plants, allowing only one shot to get past them to help their squad secure this do-or-die victory. With the win, #5 seed Plant Based Plants moves along into the Quarterfinals round where they will take on #4 seed Peanut Gallery (5-1-1) coming up on Wednesday night. Winner of this match will move along into the Semifinals coming up on Wednesday, November 4th. #12 seed Kick in a Box struggled on the defensive end in this contest, giving up a season-high six goals. Vincent Taweel was able to get Kick in a Box on the board, but it was not nearly enough to keep up with third-highest scoring team in the league. Overall, Kick in a Box had a nice season and just needed a couple of results to go the other way for them. We hope to see them back on the pitch next season!

 

Soccer? I hardly even know her. (4-2-1) vs. FIS FC (2-5) – Wednesday, October 21, 2020

On a cold and blustery night in Round 1 of the Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League, #6 seed Soccer? I hardly even know her. scored two goals to knock-off #11 seed FIS FC, 2-0. Harry Hilling led the way for Soccer? I Hardly even know her., firing in their 5th and 6th goals of the season to help propel their squad into the Quarterfinals. GK Max Morrissey was amazing in net for Soccer? I hardly even know her., saving every shot that came their way to record their second shutout of the season. The win sees #6 seed Soccer? I hardly even know her. advance into the Quarterfinals where they will now take on #3 seed Grass Kickers (6-1) coming up on Wednesday night. Winner of this game will move on and into the Semifinals coming up on Wednesday, November 4th. FIS FC struggled offensively in this contest and suffered their third shutout of the season. While they certainly hoped for more out of their playoff campaign, they should be pleased with their season as a whole. We hope to see them out on the pitch next season!

 

Chicago Lightfooters FC (4-2-1) vs. Team Titans (2-4-1) – Wednesday, October 21, 2020

In Round 1 of the Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League, #7 seed Chicago Lightfooters FC solidified their continuation on to the Quarterfinals with a narrow 1-0 victory over #10 seed Team Titans. The one and only goal of the match was scored by William Ballentine of Chicago Lightfooters to help lift their squad to this must-win victory. GK Ethan Shohet Zabin was incredible in net for Chicago Lightfooters FC as they were able to stop every shot that came their way and record the shutout victory. #7 seed Chicago Lightfooters FC will now move on to the Quarterfinals where they will meet #2 seed Let’s Get Messi (5-0-1) coming up on Wednesday night. Winner of this match will advance into the Semifinals that will take place on Wednesday, November 4th. Team Titans had their opportunities but could not seem to find the back of the net in this one. It was the third time this season that Team Titans failed to score a single in a game. The loss ends Team Titans season and gives them an overall record of 2-4-1. They battled hard each week and we hope to see them back on the pitch next season!

 

Torts Illustrated (4-3) vs. Them (2-3-1) – Wednesday, October 21, 2020

#8 seed Torts Illustrated walked away with a must-win 4-1 victory over #9 seed Them in Round 1 of the Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League Playoffs. Tomide Owolabi’s four goals were three too many for Them as Torts Illustrated cruised into the Quarterfinals round. The four goals brought Tomide Owolabi’s season goal scoring total up to 8. #8 seed Torts Illustrated moves along and into the Quarterfinals round coming up on Wednesday night where they will take the pitch against #1 seed Trailblazers (6-0-1). Winner of this match will move along and into the Semifinals that will take place on Wednesday, November 4th. Except for their Week 5 win by a final score of 4-0, Them had not scored more than 1 goal in any other game this season. The same held true in their Round 1 match-up and sees their season come to an end. While they had certainly hoped to advance a little further along in the postseason, Them can be proud of their performances this season. We hope to see this squad back on the pitch next season!
