Monday UIC TURF Men’s 7v7 Outdoor Soccer – Playoffs Week 1

Ball Busters FC (2-4-0) vs. INDY Team #5 (3-4-0) – Monday, August 31, 2020

Fourth-seeded INDY Team #5 came into this quarterfinal’s matchup against #5 Ball Busters as the slight favorites but walked away from the UIC TURF Field on the wrong end of a 3-1 final. As they did earlier in the year in their matchup back in Week 3, Ball Busters FC won the rematch against INDY Team #5 and advanced into the semifinals. Three different players tallied their names onto the scorer’s sheet, including the leagues overall leading goal scorer Nicholas Kapetanos who knocked in one of the goals to help earn the crew the W.  Ball Busters FC would need to stay on the field and immediate take on #1 Vitamin O in the semifinals with an opportunity to advance into the championship game. More on that game below. Joseph Lippe scored the only goal for INDY Team #5 to prevent the shutout in this match. Unfortunately, INDY Team #5 just could not find enough offensive fire power to keep up with a determined Ball Busters FC crew. It was a very solid season for the INDY Team #5 squad, and we hope we see them back on the field in the upcoming Fall season!

Ball Busters FC (2-4-0) vs. Vitamin O (5-1-0) – Monday, August 31, 2020

Vitamin O came into the Monday UIC TURF Men’s 7v7 Soccer Playoffs as the overall #1 seed and were hoping to advance into the Finals with a win in the semifinals. Unfortunately for #1 Vitamin O, their season ended abruptly as they went down to #5 seeded Ball Busters FC by a final score of 4-2 in a thrilling semifinals matchup. The leagues overall leading goal scorer Nicholas Kapetanos was the hero once again for Ball Busters FC in this matchup as he fired in two goals to complete the shocking double header sweep on Monday night. Goalkeeper Michael Morawiec was fantastic once again in this contest as he helped his squad advance into the Finals coming up on Monday, September 14th when we return from the holiday break. #5 Ball Busters FC will now match up with #2 Vitamin O Yeah (5-1-0) in the Finals.  Goals from Ryan Heaney and Ryan Geidner for Vitamin O were not enough to keep up with a very determined Ball Busters FC crew in this game. It was a shocking end to an absolute dream regular season for #1 Vitamin O. We hope to see this squad back on the field in the Fall!

Kim Jong United (4-3-0) vs. INDY Team #6 (0-6-0) – Monday, August 31, 2020

Sixth-seeded INDY Team #6 could not field enough starters to play a legal game on Monday night in quarterfinals of the Monday UIC TURF Men’s 7v7 Soccer Playoffs and had to take a forfeit loss to #3 Kim Jong United. It is certainly not the ending INDY Team #6 were looking for heading into the season but all in all, it was a very solid season for this squad. We look forward to seeing them back on the field in the Fall! The win for Kim Jong United advanced them into the semifinals and they would need to take on #2 Vitamin O Yeah in the semifinals. See below for that game’s recap.

Vitamin O Yeah (5-1-0) vs. Kim Jong United (4-3-0) – Monday, August 31, 2020

On Monday evening at the UIC TURF Field in the semifinals of the Spring 2020 Playoffs, #2 Vitamin O Yeah had five different players find the back of the net, led by Yamen’s hat trick (3 goals) in rolling past #3 Kim Jong United 8-0. The eight goals scored were the second highest goal scoring tally of the season for Vitamin O Yeah. Goalkeeper Andres Ochoa was also on fire for Vitamin O Yeah in this contest as he recorded another shutout for his squad. The blowout victory advances Vitamin O Yeah into the Championship game coming up on Monday, September 14th once we return from the holiday break. They will take on #5 Ball Busters FC (2-4-0) for the league title. In contrast to their quarterfinals matchup, the defense for Kim Jong United crumbled in critical moments in this contest as they took their toughest defeat of the year. It was still a fantastic overall season for Kim Jong United, and we hope to see them on the field during the upcoming Fall season!
