Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Outdoor Soccer League Recap – Playoffs Week 1

Kenosha Kickers (2-4-2) vs. Just Closing Our Rings (0-3-4) – Monday, August 31, 2020

#16 seed Kenosha Kickers and #17 seeded Just Closing Our Rings played a nail-biter up to the last minute in Round 1 of the Monday night Playoffs with a final score of 3-2. Three different players tallied their names onto the scorer’s sheet for Kenosha Kickers in this contest. This huge Round 1 victory would see Kenosha Kickers advance into Round 2 and immediately take on #1 Daddy FC. More on this game below. Just Closing Our Rings were unable to stop much in terms of defense in this one, surrendering more goals than their average of 1.9 GAPG for the year. Hector Hernandez was the star player for Just Closing Our Rings this week as he knocked in both of his team’s goals. Just Closing Our Rings saw their season end a little sooner than they had hoped but overall, it was still a very good season for this squad. We hope to see them on the field in the upcoming Fall season!

Squad Goals (2-4-2) vs. UniTo Pastis (1-5-1) – Monday, August 31, 2020

Goalkeeper Mike Hill stopped every shot that came his way and Ashley Sum knocked in a fantastic goal as fifteenth-seeded Squad Goals downed #18 seed UniTo Pastis, 1-0, in perfect conditions on Monday night in Round 1 of the Spring 2020 Monday Lincoln Park Coed REC 8v8 Soccer Playoffs. The victory advanced Squad Goals into Round 2 and would see them take on #2 Team Cool Kids. See below for that games recap. UniTo Pastis struggled all game long to get anything past the Squad Goals keeper. They had their opportunities, but the ball just would not find the back of the net. It was a disappointing end to what was a very solid season for UniTo Pastis. We hope to see this squad back on the field in the Fall!

Daddy FC (6-0-1) vs. Kenosha Kickers (2-4-2) – Monday, August 31, 2020

Daddy FC showed the league on Monday night why they are the overall #1 seed as they blanked #16 Kenosha Kickers with a final score of 2-0 in Round 2 of the Playoffs. Daddy FC continued their winning ways on Monday night and are officially the team to beat moving forward in this tournament. Elizabeth Yang lasered in one of the squads two goals to help secure the victory. The defense however are the unsung heroes of this match for helping George K earn a shutout. The win advances #1 Daddy FC into the quarterfinals and they now will need to take on the winner of the #8 Kickin’ In The Backseat: Our Corporate Soccer Team (4-2-1) vs. #9 ESPN The Ocho (3-2-1) on Monday, September 14th once we return from the holiday break. Kenosha Kickers had some momentum on their side as they came into this game coming off a huge win in Round 1. Unfortunately for the Kenosha Kickers, they could not break through the toughest defense in the league. It was a great overall season for Kenosha Kickers, and we hope to see them on the field in the upcoming Fall season!

Team Cool Kids (6-0-1) vs. Squad Goals (2-4-2) – Monday, August 31, 2020

#2 seeded Team Cool Kids played well in this Round 2 matchup and blanked #15 Squad Goals with a final score of 2-0. Team Cool Kids are another team that no one will want to face as they have yet to suffer a defeat all season. Kevin Conway and Ethan Chaplinsky knocked in the two goals for Team Cool Kids to help secure the victory. Shout-out to their keeper, Jeff Carpenter, for the shutout! The win advances Team Cool Kids into the quarterfinals on Monday, September 14th and will now take on #10 TBD (Team Vecchitto) (3-1-3) in an attempt to advance into the semifinals. Squad Goals came into this game with all the confidence in the world but ended up leaving the Lincoln Park TURF field on the wrong side of a 2-0 result. They had their chances in this game, but the ball just would not find the back of the net. It was a disappointing end to what was a very solid season for Squad Goals. We hope to see this squad back on the field in the Fall!

INDY Team #16 (3-4-1) vs. Comedy Club (0-5-2) – Monday, August 31, 2020

#13 seed INDY Team #16 flashed its offensive firepower in a 6-1 win over #20 Comedy Club on Monday night in Round 1 of the Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer Playoffs. Three different players tallied a score against Comedy Club, led by four fantastic goals by Adam Altman. The blowout victory would see INDY Team #16 advance into Round 2 and take on #4 seed Balls Deep. More on this game below. Comedy Club really struggled to get it going in this game, scoring less than their average of 1.4 GPG this season. Rachel Mangus scored the only goal for Comedy Club to prevent the shutout. This was certainly not the way Comedy Club saw their season ending. This team competed hard week in and week out, and we hope we see them on the TURF in the upcoming Fall season!

2 Goals 1 Cup (3-3-1) vs. Echo (0-5-2) – Monday, August 31, 2020

#14 seed 2 Goals 1 Cup produced a season-high four goals on its way to a 4-2 victory over #19 Echo in Round 1 of the Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer Playoffs. Sky Anselm, Ben Womac, Jeff Kinka and Sean Irwin all recorded a tally in the goal column for 2 Goals 1 Cup in this contest. The win was their third overall on the season and would see them move along into Round 2. They would take on #3 seed Soccer Hotties with an opportunity to advance into the quarterfinals. More on this game below. Echo really did not have their best showing on the defensive end in this one, giving up more goals than their average of 3.3 GAPG for the season. Echo still had notable players including Frankie Saiz and Timothy Miller who each knocked in one goal apiece in this contest. Echo failed to record a victory this season, but they competed hard each week. We hope to see this squad back on the field in the upcoming Fall season!

Balls Deep (5-1-1) vs. INDY Team #16 (3-4-1) – Monday, August 31, 2020

As was the case earlier this season back in Week 3, Fourth seeded Balls Deep won the second go-around against the #13 seed INDY Team #16 in Round 2 of the Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer Playoffs. This game finished with a final score of 3-0. Three different Balls Deep players provided the scoring with Andrew Lively knocking in his fourth goal of the season. Shoutout to keeper Max Wiemer for the superb performance in net as he helped his squad earn the shutout. INDY Team #16 rolled into this game scoring a season-high six goals in Round 1 but unfortunately just could not find that same magic in this Round 2 matchup. INDY Team #16 was hoping for a different ending on Monday night, but they still should be proud of their accomplishments this season. We hope to see them back on the TURF in the upcoming Fall season!

Soccer Hotties (6-0-1) vs. 2 Goals 1 Cup (3-3-1) – Monday, August 31, 2020

Nine goals were scored over the span of 40 minutes on Monday evening at the Lincoln Park TURF Field as #3 seed Soccer Hotties topped #14 2 Goals 1 Cup in an entertaining 6-3 final in Round 2 action. Three different players knocked in a goal for 2 Goals 1 Cup, including Sean Irwin who notched his team-leading third goal of the season. Unfortunately for Sean Irwin and the rest of the 2 Goals 1 Cup crew, it just was not enough to get past a determined Soccer Hotties squad. 2 Girls 1 Cup battled in every game this season; they just ran out of gas in this Round 2 matchup. We look forward to seeing them on the field during the Fall season! Soccer Hotties were led by Eric Gilbert in this contest as he knocked in a hat-trick to help his team cruise through to the quarterfinals. Shane Wehrheim, Daniel Johnson, and Adam Rabushka supplied the others as Soccer Hotties will now take on #6 Oat Milk is Not Real Milk (4-1-2) in the quarterfinals coming up on Monday, September 14th.

Kinexon FC (4-4-0) vs. Team Awesome (1-7-0) – Monday, August 31, 2020

Juan Carvajal scored two goals to give #12 seed Kinexon FC a 3-1 win over #21 Team Awesome in Round 1 of the Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer Playoffs. The win was Kinexon FC’s second in a row, and they would carry this winning momentum with them into Round 2 of the Playoffs. They would immediately take the field to take on #5 seed Ben’s Angels with an opportunity to advance into the quarterfinals. More on this game below. Team Awesome recorded one victory during the regular season and it was against this same Kinexon FC squad back in Week 4. Unfortunately for Team Awesome, they could not keep up with a very determined Kinexon FC crew. Team Awesome really brought their best despite the loss, exceeding their average of 0.8 GPG this year. The loss ends the season for Team Awesome but we hope they’ll be back on the pitch in the upcoming Fall season!

Oat Milk is Not Real Milk (4-1-2) vs. Avocado Discoballs (3-3-1) – Monday, August 31, 2020

#11 seed Avocado Discoballs could not field enough starters to play a legal game on Monday night in Round 2 of the Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed Rec 8v8 Soccer Playoffs and had to take a forfeit loss to #6 seed Oat Milk is Not Real Milk. It is certainly not the ending Avocado Discoballs were looking for heading into the season but all in all, it was a very solid season for this squad. We look forward to seeing them back on the field in the Fall competing for another championship! The win for Oat Milk is Not Real Milk advanced them into the quarterfinals coming up on Monday, September 14th. They will take the field against #3 Soccer Hotties (6-0-1) with an opportunity to advance into the semis.

Ben’s Angels (4-0-3) vs. Kinexon FC (4-4) – Monday, August 31, 2020

#5 seed Ben’s Angels defeated Kinexon FC 5-1 in Round 2 of the Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer Playoffs behind four goals from Erich Peltz. Ben’s Angels really stepped in their first postseason match, exceeding their regular season average of 2.3 goals per game.  Erich Peltz was unstoppable and contributed 4 of the five goals to guide the crew’s attack. Bill Cooney also contributed to the team’s final score. The win seeds Ben’s Angels move along into the quarterfinals coming up on Monday, September 14th when we return from the holiday break. They will take the field against #4 Balls Deep (5-1-1). Hoping to build off their huge Round 1 victory the game before, Kinexon FC struggled in this match, and they allowed a season high five goals. Juan Carvajal scored the only goal for Kinexon FC to prevent the shutout. It was a very nice overall season for Kinexon FC and we hope to see them build off this in the upcoming Fall season!

TBD (Team Vecchitto) (3-1-3) vs. Game of Throw-Ins (4-3-1) – Monday, August 31, 2020

It was a thrilling night for #10 seed TBD (Team Vecchitto), as they picked up a massive 2-1 upset victory over #7 Game of Throw-Ins in Round 2 of the Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer Playoffs. Team TBD (Team Vecchitto) has not lost a game now since Week 3 of the regular season and are playing some great soccer. Scott Stoebig and Nic Vecchitto knocked in a goal apiece to help secure this massive win. They will now move along into the quarterfinals coming up on Monday, September 14th once we return from the holiday break. They will take the field against #2 seed Team Cool Kids (6-0-1) with an opportunity to advance into the semifinals. Erick De Loera scored the only goal for Game of Throw-Ins to get their team on the board. Unfortunately, they just could not get anything else past the TBD (Team Vecchitto) keeper. It is a heartbreaking end to a fantastic overall season for Game of Throw-Ins. We hope to see them back and competing once again in the upcoming Fall season.
