Fall 2018 Tues CIBC Coed Soccer – Week 7

BMcD (4-2-1) vs. PRESTIGE WORLDWIDE (0-5-2) – Tuesday, January 22, 2019

In this play-in game, the #5 seed, BMcD, took on the #12 seed, PRESTIGE WORLDWIDE. This win is the second in a row for BMcD. Javier Hernandez is the goalkeeper credited with the shutout for BMcD. Helping on the offense, Javier Hernandez, Allie Shea, and Caleb Peterson were among those who scored in this playoff win for BMcD. Winning this play-in game means BMcD advances to Quarter-Finals. Next week, they will face the #4 seeded team, JLL Soccer. This is the second time these teams are scheduled to play each other, but it’s hard to say who will win next week, since JLL Soccer forfeited the match earlier this season. PRESTIGE WORLDWIDE is done for the season and we hope to see them return for the start of the new league coming up soon.

 

Kick in a Box (1-4-2) vs. Double Credenza FC (3-3-1) – Tuesday, January 22, 2019

In this exciting 1-point play-in game, Kick in a Box, the #11 seed upset the #6 seed, Double Credenza FC in OT.  Sean Dempsey leads Kick in a Box this season in scoring and added 2 goals to their stats this week bringing Sean Dempsey’s personal total to 4. Also providing some scoring was Rebecca Follenweider and Louis Azevedo. Those who made the goal in OT deserves some credit too, Elizabeth Higginbotham, Sean Dempsey, and Ashley Campell shoutout to you too! Kick in a Box will continue on their road to victory. Next week, they will face the #3 seeded team, GCM Grosvenor. Despite losing, Double Credenza FC had been doing great on offense for the season, with a total of 25 goals. The losing team still had notable players including Dave, who tallied two goals, and Kevin Jack and Audrey who tallied one goal each for Double Credenza FC. Double Credenza FC had a great run this season, but they will not be advancing to the next round of playoffs.

 

Chubby Alonsos (4-1-3) vs. The Ball Handlers (1-5-1) – Tuesday, January 22, 2019

It was an exciting play-in game, in which the #7 seed, Chubby Alonsos, squeaked by with a 1-point win against the #10 seed, The Ball Handlers in OT. In the win for Chubby Alonsos, Craig Ludington and Greg K both scored in this playoff win for Chubby Alonsos, putting one shot each past the The Ball Handlers goalkeeper, Mark. The win for Chubby Alonsos means a ticket to quarter-finals.  They jumped right into the next round where they faced the #2 seeded team, INDY Team #12. Find out how they did in the recap below. The Ball Handlers gave everything they had defensively in this game even though they lost, allowing fewer than their average of 3.4 goals against per game for the year. The losing team still had notable players including Dillon and Tosh, who kicked one goal each for The Ball Handlers. This is the end of the road for The Ball Handlers’s run in this league. There’s always next season!

 

SALT United (4-4) vs. INDY Team #6 (2-4-1) – Tuesday, January 22, 2019

The #8 seed, SALT United, took on the #9 seed, INDY Team #6, and dominated 3-0. In the win for SALT United, Jovan Milunovic is the goalkeeper credited with the shutout for SALT United. Helping on the offense, Alexander Nicholas scored two goals and Boras scored one goal in this playoff win for SALT United. The win for SALT United means a ticket to quarter-finals. They jumped straight into the next round in the same night, and you can continue to follow their playoff journey in the game recap below. INDY Team #6 struggled to get it going in terms of scoring in this one and couldn’t seem to find the back of the net. INDY Team #6 is done for the season and we hope to see them return for the start of the new league coming up soon.

 

Beercelona (4-0-4) vs. SALT United (4-4) – Tuesday, January 22, 2019

No one expected this quarter-final games to be such a close one. Beercelona, the #1 seed just squeaked by in this 1-point game to beat the #8 seed, SALT United in overtime. Beercelona seems to have found their groove and has won two games in a row. Connor Welby leads Beercelona this season in scoring and added 2 goals to their stats this week bringing Connor Welby’s personal total to 14, which is the highest in the league. Shoutout to Clint Ullrich for kicking the final goal that won this game for them. In the loss, Alex Hausman was the star player for SALT United this week. He scored both goals for them. The win for Beercelona means a ticket to semi-finals. They’re scheduled to play the winner of the #4 vs. #5 seed game. Whichever team emerges as the winner will advance to the championship game. SALT United had a good run this season, but they will not be advancing to the next round of playoffs.

 

Chubby Alonsos (4-1-3) vs. INDY Team #12 (3-2-1) – Tuesday, January 22, 2019

Chubby Alonsos, the #7 seed upset the #2 seed, INDY Team #12, 2-1. Craig Ludington and Greg K both scored in this playoff win for Chubby Alonsos, putting one shot past the INDY Team #12 goalkeeper, Beck Hughes. The win for Chubby Alonsos meant a straight shot to semi-finals. INDY Team #12 really didn’t have their best stuff on offense in this one, scoring fewer than their average of 2.0 goals per game this season. Jane Cook scored the only goal for INDY Team #12 to prevent the shut out. INDY Team #12 is done with playoffs, which means it’s time for a team meeting at the bar to regroup for next season!
