Fall 2018 Thursday Lincoln Park Coed Rec Flag Football – Week 8

Bucky’s Sack (4-5) v. Park at the Park (6-2) – Thursday, November 1, and 2018

They weren’t the favored team, but Bucky’s Sack, the #17 seed upset the #9 seed, Park at the Park, in this quarter-final match. The final score of 39-26 reflects the hard work Bucky’s Sack put into every minute of the game.  Bucky’s Sack stepped up in this one, topping their average of 25.20 points per game. QB Danny Davis threw five scores, passing to Kevin Kazlow for four of them, and Luke Musech for one.  During the loss, QB Ryan Gronwick and Blaise Bakke hit Colette Terhune, Joshua Beachler, and Ryan Gronwick for one touchdown each and Gronwick rushed for one. The win for Bucky’s Sack meant a straight shot to semi-finals. They played this game immediately following the quarter-final game. The recap below tells you all about it. Park at the Park is done with playoffs, which means it’s time for a team meeting at the bar to regroup for next season!

 

Midway BlitZ (6-1-1) v. Smiling Politely (5-3) – Thursday, November 1, and 2018

No one expected this quarter-final game to be such a close one. Midway BlitZ, the #2 seed barely squeaked by in this 1-touchdown game to beat the #7 seed, Smiling Politely with a final score of 18-12. The final score of 18-12 reflects the hard work Midway BlitZ put into every minute of the game. This team really stepped up on defense, beating their season points against average of 20.3 points per game. QB Dino Vazquez threw three scores, passing to Jessica Martin, Tomas Ross, and Christen Colts for one score each.  For Smiling Politely, QB Mike Regent hit Katie for a touchdown. The win for Midway BlitZ meant a straight shot to semi-finals. They played this game immediately following the quarter-final game. The recap below tells you all about it. Smiling Politely had a run this season, but they will not be advancing to the next round of playoffs.

 

Accounts Playable (6-1) v. PG Warriors (3-5) – Thursday, November 1, and 2018

Heading into this quarter-final game, PG Warriors were coming off their top offensive game of the season, scoring 44 points last week. Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep the momentum going. Accounts Playable confidently took the win to advance to Semi-Finals by the score of 33-6. These guys really brought it on the defensive end in this game, beating their season points against average of 22.7 ppg. QB Michael Scherpenberg delivered two touchdowns, passing to both Madeline Kelley and Phil Oertli for one touchdown each and rushed in three on his own.  For PG Warriors, QB Ben hit Tim Cremieux for one touchdown. Accounts Playable advanced to semi-finals, and without a week to rest, jumped right into it as a double header. See how they did by reading the next recap. Burn Early (7-1) v. INDY Team #11 (3-5) – Thursday, November 1, and 2018

Burn Early was the higher ranked #4 seed playing the #12 seed, INDY Team #11. They confidently took the win to advance to Semi-Finals. Burn Early put 26 on the board and held INDY Team #11 to 21 points.   QB Ryan Lindquist threw three TDs, hitting Matt Stern, Alex Jirschele, and Kevin Berens each for one of them.  In the loss for INDY Team #11, QB Nick Fackler ran in two scores himself. The win for Burn Early meant a straight shot to semi-finals. They played this game immediately following the quarter-final game. The recap below tells you all about it. Unfortunately for INDY Team #11, this loss means no long sleeves for them.

 

Bucky’s Sack (4-5) v. Burn Early (7-1) – Thursday, November 1, and 2018

Heading into this Semi-final game, Burn Early was the #4 seed facing the #17 seed, Bucky’s Sack. With their higher rank and momentum from the quarter-finals, Burn Early went into this game thinking they would be going on to the Championship Game. With a final score of 28-8, Bucky’s Sack grabbed this W. The final score of 28-8 reflects the hard work Bucky’s Sack put into every minute of the game.  Bucky’s Sack really showed up in this one, exceeding their average of 25.20 ppg. QB Danny Davis threw three scores, finding Derek, Annie, and Kevin Kazlow for one score each, and then ran one in himself.  For Burn Early, QB Ryan Lindquist hit Kathleen for one touchdown. These underdogs have made it to the big dance! Bucky’s Sack, who finished the regular season as the #17 seed advanced to the Championship Game. Accounts Playable (6-1) v. Midway BlitZ (6-1-1) – Thursday, November 1, and 2018

With both teams working to advance to the Championship Game, the #3 seed, Accounts Playable, won by just a 6-point margin against the #2 seed, Midway BlitZ. Accounts Playable put 32 on the board and held Midway BlitZ to 26 points.  Accounts Playable showed some fight in this one, winning, despite scoring less than their average points per game of 35.70. QB Michael Scherpenberg passed one touchdown to Kate and rushed for three more. Jacinda also rushed one score. In the loss, QB Dino Vazquez hit Tom L for two touchdowns, and Monet for one. Accounts Playable (6-1) v. Bucky’s Sack (4-5) – Thursday, November 1, and 2018

In this Championship Game, the #3 team, Accounts Playable played the #17 team, Bucky’s Sack, for the coveted Chicago Sport and Social Club long-sleeve champ shirts to forever capture their moment of glory. By the score of 24-16, Accounts Playable got a nice W. These guys, Accounts Playable, buckled down in this game, winning, despite scoring less than their avg. ppg of 35.70. QB Michael Scherpenberg delivered two TDs to Matt and ran for one with his legs. During the loss, QB Danny Davis hit Samwise for one touchdown, and rushed for one more. Congratulations to Accounts Playable on a great season and their championship win! We hope to see this squad return to defend their title. Bucky’s Sack went from the #17 at the end of the season to the championship game, which is a victory in itself. Although they lost, they had a great playoff run and they have next season to look forward to.
