Cheeky Monkey (3-5) vs. INDY Team #9 (0-8) – Thursday, January 24, 2019

In this play-in game, the #7 seed, Cheeky Monkey, took on the #10 seed, INDY Team #9. Cheeky Monkey won 3-0 in this match. Kevin is the goalkeeper credited with the shutout for Cheeky Monkey. Helping on the offense, Jenny Giudici and Matt were among those who scored in this playoff win for Cheeky Monkey. INDY Team #9 struggled to get it going in this game and came short of making it onto the scoreboard. Cheeky Monkey will continue on their road to victory. They jumped straight into the next round in the same night, and you can continue to follow their playoff journey in the game recap below. Hopefully the loss doesn’t haunt INDY Team #9 too much. Gogo (4-4) vs. Hot Messi (1-6) – Thursday, January 24, 2019

Gogo was coming off their top offensive game of the season, scoring 5 goals last week. Additionally, they were the higher ranked #8 seed playing the #9 seed, Hot Messi. They played well and took the win with a final score of 5-3 to advance to Quarter-Finals. Hot Messi really didn’t have their best showing on defense in this game, surrendering more goals than their average of 2.7 GAPG this year. The losing team still had notable players including Jose Vidal and Jordan who put in one and two goals respectively for Hot Messi. On the bright side for Hot Messi, this loss means they can save their legs and recharge for next season. In the win for Gogo, Caroline Blackwood, Lauren Krieberg, and Viyon Kuton were among those who scored in this playoff win for Gogo, putting two, one, and two shots respectively past the Hot Messi goalkeeper, Alphonso Tapia. Winning this play-in game means Gogo advanced to Quarter-Finals. Gogo (4-4) vs. Game of Throw-Ins (5-1-1) – Thursday, January 24, 2019

Gogo defeated Game of Throw-Ins 2-1 in this quarter-final game. However, they were the lower ranked #8 seed playing the #1 seed, Game of Throw-Ins. Viyon Kuton leads Gogo this season in scoring and added 2 goals to their stats this week bringing Viyon Kuton’s personal total to 7. This is Game of Throw-Ins’s first loss of the season, but this was the only game that really counted. Unfortunately, this is the end of the road for them. Ross Henry scored the only goal for Game of Throw-Ins to save his team from a shut-out. This win advanced Gogo to semi-finals, they will play the winner of the #4 vs. #5 seed game.

 

Make Mia Hamm Sandwich (6-1) vs. Cheeky Monkey (3-5) – Thursday, January 24, 2019

Make Mia Hamm Sandwich were coming off their top offensive game of the season, scoring 8 goals last week. Additionally, they were the higher ranked #2 seed playing the #7 seed, Cheeky Monkey. They came to dominate and took the win by the final score of 3-1 to advance to Semi-Finals. This was one of two games for Cheeky Monkey this week. This was the tougher match of the two. Matt scored the only goal for Cheeky Monkey. Make Mia Hamm Sandwich continued their winning streak this week and are officially on fire. Alyssa Jacobucci, Arthur Diverno, and Robbie were among those who scored in this playoff win for Make Mia Hamm Sandwich, putting one shot each past the Cheeky Monkey goalkeeper, Kevin . Cheeky Monkey’s loss means they are done in this single-elimination playoff schedule.  Make Mia Hamm Sandwich advances semi-finals where they’ll take on the #3 ranked team, Chicago Handshakes. These two teams have history. They matched up in week 2 with Make Mia Hamm Sandwich emerging as the victor 6-1.

 

Chicago Handshakes (6-1) vs. Misfits (2-3-2) – Thursday, January 24, 2019

Chicago Handshakes were coming off their top offensive game of the season, scoring 5 goals last week. Additionally, they were the higher ranked #3 seed playing the #6 seed, Misfits. They took this 3-0 win to advance to the semi-finals. Misfits didn’t have their best stuff on the offensive end in this game and couldn’t seem to find the back of the net. Misfits’ loss means they are done in this single-elimination playoff schedule. Dustin Bender is the goalkeeper credited with the shutout for Chicago Handshakes. Helping on the offense, Dustin Bender, Michael Koho, and Will were among those who scored in this playoff win for Chicago Handshakes. This week’s win advances Chicago Handshakes to semi-finals. They’ll face the #2 ranked team, Make Mia Hamm Sandwich in a rematch. Last time they played each other Make Mia Hamm Sandwich won 6-1.
