Hungry Hungry Suarez (4-4) vs. Treadmill Trotters (4-4) – Sunday, February 3, 2019

The 4th place vs 5th place game is always one of the most exciting matches of the playoff bracket. With a final score of 2-1, Hungry Hungry Suarez grabbed this quarter-final win to move on. These teams had similar records with 4 wins each. Hungry Hungry Suarez was fired up for a double header this week. Stefan Salzano was among those who scored in this playoff win for Hungry Hungry Suarez, putting one shot past the Treadmill Trotters goalkeeper, Nora Benson. They played the semi-final game immediately following the quarter-final game. The recap below tells you all about it. It was an exciting semi-final match, in which the #5 seed, Hungry Hungry Suarez, squeaked by with a 1-point win against the #8 seed, For Fuch’s Sake, with a final score of 2-1. Even though they lost, For Fuch’s Sake has been doing great on offense this season, with a total of 24 goals. Andy Adams scored the only goal for For Fuch’s Sake to get his team on the board. Hungry Hungry Suarez had a double header. This was the better played match, which helped them claim their #5 rank in the standings table. Sharee Elgara did all the scoring for Hungry Hungry Suarez in this game, including the game-winning goal. Unfortunately for For Fuch’s Sake, this loss means the end of their season. Atletico WB (7-0-1) vs. Bird’s Nest (6-1-1) – Sunday, February 3, 2019

Heading into this semi-final game, Bird’s Nest were coming off their top offensive game of the season, scoring 7 goals last week. Additionally, they were the lower ranked #3 seed, playing the higher ranked #2 seed, Atletico WB. By the final score of 3-2, Atletico WB will be advancing to the championship game. John Whiting and Patrick Hodan scored in this playoff win for Atletico WB, putting one and two shots respectively past the Bird’s Nest goalkeeper, Soto . The exciting win for Atletico WB advanced them to the championship game. Read the championship recap below to see how they finished. This is Bird’s Nest’s first loss of the season. Steve Wilheieser was the star player for Bird’s Nest this week. He scored both goals for his team. Bird’s Nest’s loss means they are done in this single-elimination playoff schedule.

 

Atletico WB (7-0-1) vs. Hungry Hungry Suarez (4-4) – Sunday, February 3, 2019

In this suspenseful championship game, the #2 team, Atletico WB played the #5 team, Hungry Hungry Suarez, for the coveted Chicago Sport and Social Club long-sleeve champ shirts to forever capture their moment of glory. By the final score of 4-2, Atletico WB are the OFFICIAL FALL 2018 SUNDAY CIBC FIRE PITCH COED INTERMEDIATE SOCCER CHAMPIONS! The losing team still had notable players including Sharee E., who netted two goals for Hungry Hungry Suarez. Atletico ended their season with 45 total goals scored. Patrick Hodan and Kyle Dedrick both scored in this playoff win for Atletico WB, both putting two shots past the Hungry Hungry Suarez goalkeeper, Michael Drackley. Losing the championship game is never easy, but Hungry Hungry Suarez lost with grace. We hope to see them back next season for another chance at the title.  Congratulations to Atletico WB on a great season and their championship win!
