In this exciting 1-point Semi-final game, Mandatory Pitchers, the #5 seed upset the #1 seed, Kick in a Box. Sam Meyer scored the only goal for Kick in a Box to prevent the shut out. Unfortunately for Kick in a Box, this loss means the end of their season. Erik Noriega leads Mandatory Pitchers this season in scoring and added 2 goals to their stats this week bringing Erik Noriega’s personal total to 9. Avocado Discoballs (5-2-1) vs. Spoons Deux (4-3-1) – Monday, January 28, 2019
Heading into this Semi-final game, Spoons Deux were coming off their top offensive game of the season, scoring 7 goals last week. Unfortunately, the momentum wasn’t enough for them to defeat the higher ranked #2, Avocado Discoballs. The game was a close one with a final score of 3-2. Avocado Discoballs just barely took the win to advance to the Championship Game. Despite the loss, Spoons Deux have been doing great on offense this season, with a total of 28 goals. The losing team still had notable players including Jacob Fishstrom and Liz Urban, who scored one goal each for Spoons Deux. This week, Avocado Discoballs were fired up for playoffs. Eryka Hawkins, Brooks Fleming, and Ben Ritter were among those who scored in this playoff win for Avocado Discoballs, putting one shot each past the Spoons Deux goalkeeper, Brandon Hayes. This is the end of the road for Spoons Deux’s run in this league. There’s always next season. The exciting win for Avocado Discoballs advanced them to the championship game. In this nail-biting Championship Game, the #5 team, Mandatory Pitchers played the #2 team, Avocado Discoballs, for the coveted Chicago Sport and Social Club long-sleeve champ shirts to forever capture their moment of glory. With a final score of 1-0 Mandatory Pitchers grabbed the Championship title.! The two MVPs in this close match were the goalkeeper for Mandatory Pitchers, Angel Fernandez, who had a shutout, and Erik Noriega who scored the only goal of the game. Avocado Discoballs came so close to the championship title. They’re not an easy team to beat and looking ahead to next season, they are definitely a team that will be at the top of the standings table. Congratulations to Mandatory Pitchers on a great season and their championship win! We hope to see this squad return to defend their title.
