Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Men’s INT Flag Football Recap – Playoffs Week 1

69ers (2-3-2) v. Team Name (1-5) – Wednesday, August 26, and 2020

Grabbing the same result as they did last week (Week 6), 69ers won the rematch between these two groups. By the score of 22-14, 69ers got a nice win to move along into the semifinals.   QB Michael Donato threw two scores, connecting with Andrew Kosch and Matthew Pozo. Raul Martinez sealed the win with an impressive Defensive TD. 69ers would stay on the field and take on #1 Chicago Steelers in the semifinals with an opportunity to advance into the Championship game. More on that game below. Team Name really did not have their best stuff on the offensive end in this one, scoring less than their average of 17.10 ppg for the season. For Team Name, in the loss, QB Tim Hubner hit Daniel Sullivan for one touchdown. Even though they only recorded one win this season, Team Name competed hard every week. We hope we see them on the field in the upcoming Fall season!

Chicago Steelers (6-0-1) v. 69ers (2-3-2) – Wednesday, August 26, and 2020

Earlier in the season, these teams tied, but it was Team Chicago Steelers for the W in this meeting to advance into the Championship game. The final score of 16-14 reflects the hard work Chicago Steelers put into every minute of this game.  Chicago Steelers are the highest-scoring team in the league for the season, averaging 26.4 points per game, but were only able to put up 16 against one of the best defensive teams in the league. QB Zach Leahy delivered two TDs, hitting Joey Spitalli for one of them to seal this crucial victory. Chicago Steelers advance into the Championship game next Wednesday and will take on #3 We Have Fun (3-2-2) for the league title. During the loss for 69ers, QB Michael Donato hit Dan Fernandez for two touchdowns to keep his squad in this game. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t enough to get past the #1 ranked team in the league. It was a fantastic season for the 69ers group, and we hope we see them on the TURF during the upcoming Fall season!

We Have Fun (3-2-2) v. Old and Slow (1-6) – Wednesday, August 26, and 2020

As they did back in Week 5, We Have Fun won the rematch between these two groups. With a final score of 32-7, We Have Fun were fired up and ready to advance into the semifinals.  We Have Fun are one of the highest-scoring teams in the league this season, averaging 19.0 points per game. QB Nick Pieruccini passed three touchdowns, finding Jake Poliszczuk for two of them and ran for one with his legs. This lopsided victory advanced We Have Fun into the semifinals and would see them take on Terry Hoffs for a shot to participate in the Championship game. More on that game below. Old and Slow really did not have their best stuff on the offensive end in this game, scoring less than their average of 12.80 ppg for the season. For Old and Slow, QB Ryan Winkler hit Jacob Axelrod for their only score of the game. It was a tough season for Old and Slow, but they showed up ready to work every single week. We hope to see these guys competing once again in the upcoming Fall season!

We Have Fun (3-2-2) v. Terry Hoffs (5-1-1) – Wednesday, August 26, and 2020

Earlier in the season, these teams tied, but it was Team We Have Fun for the upset Win this meeting. By the score of 26-6, We Have Fun got a blowout win and showed the league that they have what it takes to take home a title.  QB Nick Pieruccini passed for four more touchdowns in this contest, passing to Corey Brent for three of them. The second win of the night for We Have Fun secures them a spot in the Championship game coming up on Wednesday night. They will take on #1 Chicago Steelers in a game that will feature the top-2 quarterbacks in the league (Zach Broujos – Chicago Steelers, Nick Pieruccini – We Have Fun). They should be an instant classic! Terry Hoffs really were unable to get rolling in this game, scoring less than their average of 18.90 points per game for the year. During the loss, QB Austin Zenere hit Stephen Jones for their only score of the game. Terry Hoffs picked the wrong week to be off on their offensive game as they recorded their lowest scoring total in any game thus far this season. While it is certainly not the way they intended this season to end, Terry Hoffs should still be proud of their excellent season. We hope to see them make another run at the title coming up in the Fall
