Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer – Playoffs Week 2 Recap

Torts Illustrated (5-3) vs. Trailblazers (6-1-1) – Wednesday, October 28, 2020

Grabbing some revenge from their opening night loss, #8 seed Torts Illustrated won the rematch against #1 seed Trailblazers in the Quarterfinals of the Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League. This game finished in O.T. with a thrilling final score of 2-1. Torts Illustrated really showed up on D in this one, beating their season goals against average of 1.8 goals per game. Chris Matute and Tomide Owolabi each scored one goal apiece to help Torts Illustrated advance into the Semifinals coming up on Wednesday night. Torts Illustrated will now take the field coming up on Wednesday night in the Semifinals where they will battle with #5 seed Plant Based Plants (6-1-1). Winner of this game will advance into the Championship game and compete for the League title. This was Trailblazers’s first loss of the season and it could not have come at a worse time. Mike Goldberg scored the only goal for Trailblazers in regulation time to get their team on the board and give them a chance in O.T. Unfortunately for Trailblazers, they could not get the Golden Goal in O.T. and saw their season come to an end. Overall, it was a fantastic season for the Trailblazers crew, and they came up just shy of making into the Final4. We hope to see this squad back on the pitch next season competing for another championship!

 

Plant Based Plants (6-1-1) vs. Peanut Gallery (5-2-1) – Wednesday, October 28, 2020

#5 seed Plant Based Plants were incredible on both sides of the pitch against #4 seed Peanut Gallery with a final score of 4-0 in the Quarterfinals of the Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League. The league’s second overall leading goal scorer, Sam Viola, led all scorers in the Quarterfinals round as he racked up a hat trick to help get the crew this huge victory. Cornelius McGrath also notched their fifth goal of the season for Plant Based Plants to put this game away. With this Quarterfinals victory, #5 seed Plant Based Plants will now advance into the Semifinals coming up on Wednesday night where they will take on #8 seed Torts Illustrated (5-3). Winner of this game will advance into the Championship game and compete for the League title. Despite the loss, Peanut Gallery had a fantastic offensive season as they led the league with 32 total goals. Unfortunately for Peanut Gallery, they could not find that offensive magic against Plant Based Plants in this Quarterfinals match-up and suffered their first shutout of the season. This squad had a great season, and we hope to see them back on the pitch next season competing for another championship!

 

Let’s Get Messi (6-0-1) vs. Chicago Lightfooters FC (4-3-1) – Wednesday, October 28, 2020

#7 seed Chicago Lightfooters FC had its season come to an end via a penalty kick shootout, falling to the No. 2 seed Let’s Get Messi squad in the Quarterfinals of the Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League. Behind the brilliant defensive performance by GK Seth Thoth and Co., Let’s Get Messi and Chicago Lightfooters FC were scoreless after 45 minutes and needed PKs to decide who would advance to the Semifinals. This huge Quarterfinals victory now advances Let’s Get Messi into the Semifinals where they will take on #3 seed Grass Kickers (7-1) coming up on Wednesday night. Winner of this Semifinals match-up will stay on the field and play in the Championship game with the League title on the line. For Chicago Lightfooters FC, it was a very successful season, and they should all be extremely proud of what they achieved. We hope this squad will regroup and get ready to go again for next season!

 

Grass Kickers (7-1) vs. Soccer? I hardly even know her. (4-3-1) – Wednesday, October 28, 2020

The win for #3 seed Grass Kickers in the Quarterfinals of the Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League was earned without a drop of sweat since #6 seed Soccer? I hardly even know her. forfeited as they could not field enough starters to play a legal game. This Quarterfinals victory advances Grass Kickers into the Semifinals coming up on Wednesday night where they will battle with #2 seed Let’s Get Messi (6-0-1). The winner of this game will compete in the Championship game with the League title on the line. For Soccer? I hardly even know her., this is certainly not the way they had hoped their season would end, but they should still be proud of their overall excellent season. We hope to see this crew back on the pitch competing for another League title next season!
