Yellow Cardinals (7-0-2) vs. Inter Chicago (0-6-3) – Monday, June 18, and 2018
In this Semi-Final game, the #1 seed, Yellow Cardinals, played the #4 seed, Inter Chicago. The last time these two went head to head in week 1, Yellow Cardinals won 2-1. This time around the results weren’t much different with Yellow Cardinals cruising to a 3-0 win. The Cards’ were on top of the ball on both sides of the field, and Elliot Schulz is the goalkeeper credited with the shutout for Yellow Cardinals. The offensive effort was evenly distributed between Patrick Morey, Cody Berek, and Stephanie Flemming who each notched one. They dominated in the regular season, and it’s no surprise Yellow Cardinals advanced to the Championship game. Read the recap below to find out how they did. Inter Chicago didn’t have their best stuff on offense in this game, and failed to make it onto the scoreboard. Inter Chicago had a difficult run this season and they will not be advancing to the next round of playoffs.
INDY Team #4 (1-2-4) vs. INDY Team #3 (2-2-3) – Monday, June 18, and 2018
In this Semi-Final game, the #2 seed, INDY Team #3, took on the #3 seed, INDY Team #4. The results of this game just go to show that you can’t trust rankings as INDY Team #4 routed the higher ranked INDY Team #3 3-1. INDY Team #3 really were unable to get rolling on the offensive end in this game, scoring less than their average of 2.1 goals per game this year. Simon Lockwood-Bean had the only goal for the squad to save their team from embarrassment. Darreon Dewberry, Daniel Zavala, and Nic Harris all chipped in on offense, and each respectively put one shot past the INDY Team #3 goalkeeper, Trevor Wolf. Hopefully the loss doesn’t haunt INDY Team #3 too much, there’s always next season. The semi-final win for INDY Team #4 advanced them to the championship game. In this Championship Game, the #1 team, Yellow Cardinals played the #3 team, INDY Team #4, for the coveted Chicago Sport and Social Club long-sleeve champ shirts to forever capture their moment of glory. Both teams were playing their second game of the day, so stamina and focus proved a huge factor. The results saw Yellow Cardinals earn the W over INDY Team #4 by a staggering score of 9-1. Yellow Cardinals were absolutely unstoppable on O in this match with 9 goals. Jennifer Ferguson led the attack with 4, but happily spread the wealth to five more teammates who each put in one. INDY Team #4 had 1 goal from Daniel Zavala to prevent the shut-out. Losing the championship game is never easy, but INDY Team #4 lost with grace. We hope to see them back next season for another chance at the title. With an undefeated season and a blowout championship win, Yellow Cardinals may want to consider a more competitive league for next season. But whichever Chicago Sport and Social Club league they decide to play in, they’re going to be a tough match for any opponent. Congratulations on your victory!
