Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Outdoor Soccer League Recap – Playoffs Week 2

Kickin’ In The Backseat: Our Corporate Soccer Team (6-3-1) vs. ESPN The Ocho (3-3-1) – Monday, September 14, 2020

Joe Mozden recorded a brace and John Nader added an insurance goal as #8 seed Kickin’ In The Backseat: Our Corporate Soccer Team shut out #9 seed ESPN The Ocho 3-0 in Round 2 of the Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer League Playoffs. The team’s goalkeeper, Austin Helmke, was simply impenetrable and made sure ESPN The Ocho would not score in this contest. With the win, Kickin’ In The Backseat: Our Corporate Soccer Team would move on into the quarterfinals and take on #1 seed Daddy FC. More on this game below. ESPN The Ocho struggled to get it going on offense in this one and could not seem to find the back of the net. It was only the second time all season that ESPN The Ocho failed to tally a goal in a contest. The loss prematurely ends the season for ESPN The Ocho, but we hope they will be back on the pitch in the upcoming Fall season competing for another title!

 

TBD (Team Vecchitto) (5-1-3) vs. Team Cool Kids (6-1-1) – Monday, September 14, 2020

Jacob Roberge scored two goals to give #10 seed TBD (Team Vecchitto) a huge 3-2 upset win over #2 seed Team Cool Kids in the quarterfinals of the Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer Playoffs. The win was TBD (Team Vecchitto) second upset in a row during these playoffs as they knocked off #7 seed Game of Throw-Ins in Round 2 the week before. They would try to carry this winning momentum with them into the semifinals of the Playoffs. They would need to step back onto the field and take on #3 seed Soccer Hotties with an opportunity to advance into the Finals. More on this game below. Team Cool Kids did not lose a single game during the regular season but were not able to bring that winning formula with them into the postseason. Unfortunately for Team Cool Kids, they just could not keep up with a very determined TBD (Team Vecchitto) crew. The squads overall leading goal scorer, Ethan Chaplinsky, knocked in his 7th goal of the season to help keep his squad in this game. This heartbreaking defeat ended the season for Team Cool Kids, but we hope to see them back on the pitch in the upcoming Fall season!

 

Kickin’ In The Backseat: Our Corporate Soccer Team (6-3-1) vs. Daddy FC (6-1-1) – Monday, September 14, 2020

Derrick Brett knocked in the only goal in this match, lifting the huge underdogs, Kickin’ In The Backseat: Our Corporate Soccer Team to a 1-0 win over #1 ranked Daddy FC in the quarterfinals of the Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer League Playoffs. For the second straight game, goalkeeper Austin Helmke was amazing in net. He recorded his second straight shutout to help his squad upset the #1 ranked team in the league. Kickin’ In The Backseat: Our Corporate Soccer Team would now carry the #8 seed into the semifinals to take on #4 seed Balls Deep with an opportunity to advance into the championship game. More on this game below. This was Daddy FC’s first loss of the season and it could not have come at a worse time. This was also the first time Daddy FC has been shut out all season as they tallied a least one goal in every game they played in this season. While they certainly had hoped for much more, Daddy FC should be proud of the fantastic overall season they put together. We hope to see them on the pitch in the upcoming Fall season competing for another championship!

 

Soccer Hotties (7-1-1) vs. Oat Milk is Not Real Milk (4-2-2) – Monday, September 14, 2020

Goalkeeper Jill Domico stopped every shot that came her way. Eric Gilbert and Daniel Johnson scored a goal apiece as third-seeded Soccer Hotties downed #6 seed Oak Milk is Not Real Milk, 2-0, in beautiful conditions on Monday night in the quarterfinals of the Spring 2020 Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer League Playoffs. The victory advanced #3 seed Soccer Hotties into the semifinals and would see them take on #10 seed TBD (Vecchitto) with an opportunity to advance into the championship game. More on this game below. #6 seed Oak Milk is Not Real Milk struggled all game long to get anything past the Soccer Hotties keeper. They had their opportunities, but the ball just would not find the back of the net. It was a disappointing end to what was a very solid season for Soccer Hotties. We hope to see this squad back on the field in the Fall competing for another title!

 

Balls Deep (7-1-1) vs. Ben’s Angels (4-1-3) – Monday, September 14, 2020

On paper the #4 seed Balls Deep vs. #5 seed Ben’s Angels matchup was supposed to be a good spectacle in the quarterfinals of the Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer League Playoffs. #5 seed Ben’s Angels caused problems, but #4 seed Balls Deep’s quality shone through in a 3-0 victory at the Lincoln Park TURF Field. Kelly Ann Eyers, Josh Mah and Bill scored the goals for Balls Deep as they got the job done with minimum fuss against a spirited Ben’s Angels side. Goalkeeper Max Wiemer was amazing in net for Balls Deep, recording a huge shutout to help propel his side into the semifinals. They would immediately step back onto the field to take on #8 seed Kickin’ In The Backseat: Our Corporate Soccer Team with the winner advancing into the championship game. More on this game below. For Ben’s Angels, this is the first time all season that they failed to tally a goal in a game. They just could not slip the ball past the Balls Deep keeper. Overall, it was a very good season for Ben’s Angels, and we hope to see them back on the pitch in the upcoming Fall season competing for another title!

 

TBD (Team Vecchitto) (5-1-3) vs. Soccer Hotties (7-1-1) – Monday, September 14, 2020

Six goals were scored over the span of 40 minutes on Monday evening at the Lincoln Park TURF Field as #3 seed Soccer hotties and #10 seed TBD (Team Vecchitto) could not settle this game in regulation as this game finished all square at 3-3 after regulation and O.T. This game would move into a penalty shoot out with #10 seed TBD (Team Vecchitto) walking away with the 3-2 shootout victory (4-3 final) to advance into the championship game! TBD (Team Vecchitto) were led by Nic Vecchitto in this contest as he knocked in two of his squads three goals during regulation time to help his team squeeze through to the finals. TBD (Team Vecchitto) will now take on #4 seed Balls Deep in the finals coming up on Monday night. The league’s second overall leading goal scorer, Eric Gilbert knocked in two goals for Soccer Hotties during regulation, bringing his season goal scoring tally up to 11. Unfortunately for Eric Gilbert and the rest of the Soccer Hotties crew, it just was not enough to get past a determined TBD (Team Vecchitto) squad. It was a heartbreaking defeat for Soccer Hotties as they had their eyes on the ultimate prize. We look forward to seeing them on the field during the Fall season competing for another title!

 

Balls Deep (7-1-1) vs. Kickin’ In The Backseat: Our Corporate Soccer Team (6-3-1) – Monday, September 14, 2020

#4 Balls Deep controlled this game in shutout fashion from start to finish against #8 seed Kickin’ In The Backseat: Our Corporate Soccer Team with a final score of 2-0 in the semifinals of the Monday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC 8v8 Soccer League Playoffs. First shout-out goes to Josh Mah of Balls Deep who knocked in one of the squad’s goals and now has the most goals in the league with 13! Kelly Anne Eyers scored the other goal for Balls Deep to help propel their squad into the championship game. Shout-out to goalkeeper, Max Wiemer, for his third consecutive playoff shutout! The victory advances #4 seed Balls Deep into the Championship game coming up on Monday night where they will take on #10 seed TBD (Team Vecchitto) for the league title! For Kickin’ In The Backseat: Our Corporate Soccer Team, they were so close from making the impossible happen. They knocked off the #9 and #1 seeds on Monday night to advance into the semifinals, but they simply ran out of gas at the end. It was an amazing run to the semifinals, and we hope to see this squad back on the field in the upcoming Fall season competing for another title!
