Fall 2020 Sunday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer – Playoffs Week 1

Ball Somewhat Hard (2-5-1) vs. FC Indy (2-4-1) – Sunday, November 01, 2020

#10 seed Ball Somewhat Hard and #7 seed FC Indy were very evenly matched up to the last minute with a final score of 3-2 in favor of Ball Somewhat Hard in Round 1 of the Sunday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League. Spenser Buenzli was the star of the show for Ball Somewhat Hard as they fired in a brace to guide the team’s attack. Erik Forman pitched in with a goal of their own to help Ball Somewhat Hard secure this victory. This Round 1 victory would see Ball Somewhat Hard stay on the field and take on #2 seed Cat Facts FC (4-0-3) in the Quarterfinals. More on this game below. FC Indy really were unable to stop much on defense in this game, giving up more goals than their average of 1.7 goals against per game for the season. The losing team still had notable players including Siddharth Bhaduri and Ricky Galvez who each had one goal for FC Indy in this contest to keep them in the game. This Round 1 loss ends the season for FC Indy, but we hope to see this crew back on the pitch next season competing for another championship!

 

bend it like Beckham (2-3-3) vs. No Punt Intended (1-4-2) – Sunday, November 01, 2020

Just like earlier in the season back in Week 4, #8 seed bend it like Beckham recorded the exact same result against #9 seed No Punt Intended, this time the game finished with a final score of 3-2 in PKs in Round 1 of the Wednesday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League. bend it like Beckham are one of the higher-scoring teams in the leagues, averaging 1.6 GPG, and it showed once again in this Round 1 victory. Andy Adams scored two goals during regulation time to help get their team into PKs and win this match. #8 seed bend it like Beckham would stay on the pitch and take on #1 seed Plague (5-1-1) in the Quarterfinals. More on this game below. No Punt Intended really did everything they could to come out of this game with a victory, unfortunately it just was not meant to be in the PK shootout. The losing team still had notable players including Jorge Acevedo and Jimmy Castellano, who each scored one goal during regulation time for No Punt Intended to extend this game into O.T. and PKs. The season came to an end with this loss for No Punt Intended but we hope to see this squad back on the pitch competing for another title next season!

 

Cat Facts FC (4-0-3) vs. Ball Somewhat Hard (2-5-1) – Sunday, November 01, 2020

#2 seed Cat Facts FC booked their ticket into the Semifinals of the Sunday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League as they beat #10 seed Ball Somewhat Hard 3-1 in the Quarterfinals. Cat Facts FC came into this Quarterfinals match-up as the only team in the league without a loss on their record, and they continued that streak on Sunday morning with a convincing Quarterfinals victory. Alex Perkowski, Sam Macias and Kevin Rademaker each fired in one goal for Cat Facts FC in this contest to help seal the victory. #2 Cat Facts FC will take the field on Sunday morning in a Semifinals clash with #6 seed Trash Foot (3-2-2). Winner of this game will stay on the pitch and compete in the Championship game for a chance to claim the league title. Ball Somewhat Hard were unable to secure a second straight upset victory and saw their season come to an end in the Quarterfinals. Spenser Buenzli scored the only goal for Ball Somewhat Hard to prevent the shutout in this match. It was a fantastic run for this squad, and we hope to see them back on the pitch competition for another title next season!

 

Plague (5-1-1) vs. bend it like Beckham (2-3-3) – Sunday, November 01, 2020

By a 2-1 margin, #1 seed Plague survived a huge scare and took home the 2-1 victory over #8 seed bend it like Beckham to advance into the Semifinals of the Sunday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League. Let us start with GK Bogdan Horopciuc of Plague who now has allowed only a total of three goals in seven starts in net for their squad, which is best in the league. They held a hot bend it like Beckham team to only a single goal in this contest to their team secure this elimination game victory. #1 seed Plague will now take the field on Sunday morning and face off against #5 seed Fineberg (3-2-2) in the Semifinals. Winner of this game will move onto the Championship game with a shot to bring home the league title. bend it like Beckham could not duplicate their Offensive performance from their Round 1 match-up and ended up on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat. Natalia Lata scored the only goal for bend it like Beckham to get their team on the board in this one. bend it like Beckham was extremely close to recording back-to-back upset victories in the playoffs, unfortunately they came up just short in the end. We hope to see this squad back on the pitch competing for another championship next season!

 

Trash Foot (3-2-2) vs. INDY Team #5 (3-3-1) – Sunday, November 01, 2020

#6 seed Trash Foot needed a huge performance to upset #3 seed INDY Team #5 in the Quarterfinals of the Sunday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League and they delivered in a big way as they recorded a huge 3-1 victory to book their spot in the Semifinals. Trash Foot really showed up in this one, surpassing their average of 1.0 goals per game. Eddie Maynard fired in a brace to lead the Trash Foot offense. Kevin Hendrickson delivered a goal of their own to help seal this elimination game victory for Trash Foot. #2 seed Cat Facts FC (4-0-3) are next up on the schedule for Trash Foot coming up on Sunday in the Semifinals, as they look to stamp their ticket into the Championship game. INDY Team #5 did not have their best stuff in terms of scoring in this game, scoring fewer than their average of 1.9 GPG this season. Nate Honold scored the only goal for INDY Team #5 to save them from a shutout and help keep their squad in this game. Unfortunately, it was not enough to get past a determined Trash Foot crew. INDY Team #5’s season comes to an end with this Quarterfinals defeat but they had a very successful season overall. We hope to see this squad back on the pitch next season competing for another championship!

 

Fineberg (3-2-2) vs. Chicago Brewers (3-4) – Sunday, November 01, 2020

#4 seed Chicago Brewers and #5 seed Fineberg were very familiar with one another coming into their Quarterfinals match-up of the Sunday Lincoln Park TURF Coed REC/INT 8v8 Soccer League as they just competed against one another in Week 6 to close out their regular seasons. Gaining some revenge from that Week 6 3-1 defeat, Fineberg won the second go-around against Chicago Brewers. This game finished with a final score of 1-0. Fineberg showed up on the defensive end, beating their season goals against average of 0.9 goals per game. Jeremy Cohen was the hero on offense and scored their only goal. Shout-out to keeper, Sonia Ahluwalia, for the shutout in this Quarterfinals victory. Next up for Fineberg is a contest versus #1 seed Plague (5-1-1) in the Semifinals coming up on Sunday. Winner of this game will move onto the Championship game and compete for the league title. Chicago Brewers struggled to get it going in this game on offense and suffered a shutout in this Quarterfinals defeat.  Chicago Brewers had a fantastic overall season despite this loss, and we hope to see them on the pitch next season competing for another championship!
